This was Duncan Jones first huge budget movie compared to his initial efforts in Moon and Source Code and I think it overwhelmed him. I think also the scale of the production out matched him. There was also no cohesion to the acting if that made any sense, it was like each actor was doing their own thing without any effort to make it seem like they were all characters in the same world / setting. You look at some of the scenes and you wonder if they just took the first take and called it a day. I loved it and still hope a further film :) Comment by Transfat on T02:58:58-05:00Īs much of a fan I am of Duncan Jones and the effort he put in the movie as a director and a fan of WoW, I don't think ultimately he was the right choice of director for the movie. I'll always have fond memories of this film, not just because it was Warcraft, but because I got a personal invitation to the European premiere prior to the release date from Legendary Entertainment.Įxcept for the having to travel over 100 miles to get there, but small sacrifices! :D Comment by Dawnwheeler on T02:58:30-05:00 It was going so side ways also i didnt like Young Khadgar version at all as in game we know his as very old and middle age not some as early 20 Comment by Saruya on T02:58:24-05:00 Because it basically spat on the lore in every possible way. It is a good movie if you just remove every Warcraft lore related term from it. Personally I liked it Comment by Dhaark on T02:47:41-05:00 Whatever way the dice fall, hope remains that Warcraft 2 will eventually make it to the big screen.ĭid you enjoy the movie? What did it get right? What would you want to see in a sequel? Let us know in the comments!Ĭomment by hashtagfred on T02:45:24-05:00 Fans have suggested that WoW fan, Henry Cavil would be a brilliant Arthas should his story be told while others hold out hope for Chris Hemsworth in the role. Recently, some deleted scenes were released, and a rumor persists that Warcraft 2 is in pre-production, although there is no word as to whether it would be Jones' sequel or a reboot. While it broke box office records in China, the US take was disappointing and the hoped for next installment never came to fruition. The final result was loved by many who "got it," but generally panned. Sadly, that line proved to be a bit too narrow, and along with time constraints imposed by the production company, the film was less than Jones had hoped. Jones was masterful in making a film that rode the line between nods to the fans and accessibility to the general non-Warcraft public. Unfortunately, a film of Warcraft's scale, with absolutely brilliant SFX that allowed orcs to look like Warcraft orcs and yet be real, costs a great deal of money and that money has to be made back at the box office.

Sadly that story happens before the beginning point of World of Warcraft and many fans were baffled by the unfamiliar characters, or perhaps more by the lack of very familiar characters.ĭuncan Jones was visionary in his plan for the films and had he been able to complete his trilogy fans would likely have been very satisfied. The film, intended to ultimately be a trilogy, told the story of the opening of the Dark Portal. Instead, director Duncan Jones was hired to make a live-action film through Legendary pictures. While many had hoped or even expected that the Blizzard in-house cinematics team would take on the job, that was neither practical nor feasible.

As in-game cinematics became better and better, the writing and cinematics teams out doing themselves consistently, a full length theatrical release seemed inevitable. The story, the characters, the fact that the game was already a visual medium all contributed to the idea that Warcraft was just a film waiting to happen. For many, a World of Warcraft movie was a dream. June 10th 2016, Warcraft was released in theaters.
